Salmon Dam
About the Salmon Dam

This is a picture of the Salmon Dam. It was in use during the 1940s and 50s.
The one if the picutre to the left, is the first of two that where used. It is about half way down the Mud Lake to Cross Lake thoroughfare. The other was located at the inlet to Cross Lake. These where used to trap the Salmon and strip them of all their eggs and sperm. Then they would use those eggs and sperm to stock the lakes down south, including Moosehead Lake. The dams where shutdown after people started to see dead salmon floating around. The one in the picture still has boards sticking up to this day. So becareful going down the thoroughfare! The one near the inlet is completely gone today.
